MORGANTON, NC., Aug. 30, 2018 … A ground breaking was held today for the Fairfield Inn & Suites at 400 N. Green St., in Morganton, N.C. According to the city of Morganton, the much-anticipated project is a major turning point for its downtown.
Morganton Lodging Associates LP, led by David Bennett of Morganton and Michael Kren of Charlotte, is developing the hotel. Bennett and Kren are also owners of Fonta Flora Brewery, which is located across and just down the street from the property where the hotel is under construction.
“We believe that downtown Morganton is a prime development opportunity,” said Bennett. “With Fonta Flora and other great food and retail options popping up every day, the walkable nature of the city is a big draw to travelers, not to mention the close proximity to beautiful natural surroundings like Lake James and the Linville Gorge. Businesses also continue to invest in Morganton and Burke County, which will really help drive mid-week occupancy and economics for all of downtown.”
Hendrick Construction, Inc. of Charlotte was named the general contractor.

The four-story hotel will be a custom interpretation of the most updated version of Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott. It will have 85 rooms, an outdoor pool and bar with outdoor seating. The bar will be open to the public and will focus on craft cocktails and local flavors.
