Charlotte, N.C., June 5, 2017 … Hendrick Construction will begin construction on a new 26,250-square-foot home for Threshold Church this month. Situated on a 10-acre campus at 3501 Antioch Church Road in Weddington, N.C., the new facility will include a worship center, large lobby, cafe and kitchen, restrooms, nursery and toddler rooms, and outdoor patio spaces. In addition, an existing house on the property will be renovated to serve children and youth.
The congregation currently meets at the Siskey YMCA on Sundays at 10 a.m. Forest Hill Church sponsored its founding in 2002. To meet the needs of its growing congregation, Threshold Church purchased the property in 2014.
The church will be erected around a 4,000-square-foot 1880s barn from Minnesota. The barn sat on property where former World War II pilots were trained. A glider rudder remained in the barn, which will be displayed in the new church.
Hendrick Construction will make modern structural changes to the barn, but the interior timbers will remain. “We have renovated historic hotels, theaters and gathering places,” said Roger Hendrick, president of Hendrick Construction. “Reconstructing this barn as the centerpiece of a new, modern worship facility will be challenging, but we know it will be a meaningful and place for the Threshold Church members.”
Lead Pastor Jeff Gardner says the property has a “retreat feel. It’s just going to be a really neat facility. We really just hope it’s going to be used in many different ways.
